Cayley Mountain Resort

For breakfast, I spent more than 40 minutes in line just to get an egg, with no system at all at the omelette station. The night before, on my birthday weekend, I ordered Cajun Pasta and got overcooked, stodgy pasta covered in a flour-heavy sauce with no hint of Cajun seasoning. I was really disappointed. The next day was Valentine's Day, which made that breakfast wait feel even worse. After reading other reviews, it sounds like the restaurant's food problems have been going on for a while without being fixed. The food was terrible. Keep the menu small, make a few dishes well and serve them promptly, or get another chef. It's a beautiful spot, but such a wasted opportunity. Eat somewhere else. Maybe take a shot of GLP-1 before visiting so you won't be hungry while you wait.

The skipper on our afternoon boat cruise was friendly and knew a lot, and we really enjoyed the pap and relish. Dragon was helpful with the kids and the braaiing. We spent a day at the beach club, where the children had fun, although there wasn't much for the adults and the pedal boats weren't working. The apartment itself was beautiful and spacious, and we had a peaceful, restful week. I was disappointed that there was no balcony and that the braai area was indoors. We'd definitely come back.

Siya at reception and Nicholas at the Dam both helped make our holiday special. The spacious cottages felt homely and had our own splash pool, along with a top-of-the-range fridge and gas stove. You can see a lot of care and thought went into them. Everything was perfect, and it was a much-needed, wonderful rest. Siya especially is a real gem to the lodge, as is Nicholas. Thank you Cayley Lodge for such a memorable stay. I'd definitely recommend trying it.

The rooms are modern and spacious, and the staff were wonderful. Mbali at the restaurant was a great waiter and gave us helpful information about what to order. Cayley mountain was so peaceful and restful, and my family and I had an amazing time there. The potholes and gravel road on the way are a pain, but once you're there, you forget the bumpy drive.
