Irene Country Hotel

The room was spacious and clean, with a soaking tub, a shower, and a view over open green space. It was also so quiet. The price seemed incredibly reasonable to my partner, especially since we're from the US. The property has a lovely old farm feel, plus a working farm next door where you can wander by ponds and see free-range chickens, ducks, ibises, donkeys, and cows. Everything looked cared for, from the green grass to the farm and hotel grounds. I wish we'd stayed longer, and would do so if we're in Pretoria again. I'd recommend it to people passing through Jburg or Pretoria, and to couples or families with kids of any age.

We had arranged for flowers in the room, but there were none, and the hotel didn't even leave a birthday card or wish anyone a happy birthday at check-in, despite the reservation clearly saying it was a 75th birthday celebration. The room wasn't ready when we arrived, and nobody showed us to our rooms. We also requested a Mother's Day lunch at the farm, but there was no reservation. Renovations were going on through almost the whole hotel, with loud construction throughout our stay. We only got an email the week before saying the restaurant would have some work done. We weren't told access to the dam and walking areas would be blocked, either. Guests were expected to go to the farm for meals, with no thought given to whether they could or wanted to. We asked for in-room dining and got a room service plate. It feels like the new owners have no management in place. The staff seem directionless and don't know how to talk to guests about the lack of management, but I don't blame them. This is on the owners. Extremely disappointing.

I worked with the staff at Irene country lodge in November 2024 on a large professional event, and their patience, grace, and professionalism really stood out. They were accommodating, and the service was second to none. The lodging and catering both added to the experience, and the quality across the board was simply exceptional. It's a wonderful venue with even more wonderful people. I'd recommend it to professional or private groups booking a summit, holiday, or event. I hope I get to work with the team again.

The lakeside views, green gardens, and quiet setting made a lovely backdrop for a memorable wedding at Irene Country Hotel & Irene Farm. It brings together countryside charm and elegant luxury, with spaces that feel carefully designed. The whole experience felt warm, romantic, and unforgettable.
