Hoopoe Haven Guest House

We did our own cooking and didn’t try the restaurant, though the kitchen could use more utensils. There were nine of us, so we needed extras. The staff were really friendly and helpful, and the guest house has a farm feel, with rustic but nicely furnished cottages. There’s a lovely pool, plus some buck, a cow, an emu, and a few sheep. Shopping malls are nearby.

At least there was air conditioning, but the place was a bit disappointing. There’s just one small splash pool, and the shower drain was blocked. The appliances seemed old, and the fridge door looked like it was about to fall off. They hadn’t provided enough soap or toilet paper for what you’d usually expect. The king bed was actually two three-quarter beds, one hard and one soft. We thought that was very strange.

We booked adjoining units for our group, each sleeping six, with one private double room and four single beds in an open-plan loft. It was a great value self-catering place, and the amenities were all good apart from the gas stove, which was a little finicky.

I always enjoy staying at Hoepehaven with my family when I visit joburg. The service is awesome, and I’ll keep supporting them. Well done, Hoepehaven, keep up the good work.
