At De Hoop Nature Reserve we had a wonderful night, though the price was steep. Pelican House was very clean, and we felt safe there. The accommodation was simple and old-fashioned, but charmingly furnished, with enough to prepare basic meals. We loved sitting outside our door in the mornings with coffee and watching the starry sky, and it was incredibly quiet apart from the birdsong.

A lovely park, and you can drive your own car to Kopie Alleen. The self-catering lodge is nice, and there's a good restaurant as well.

It's right in the heart of the national park, with lots of wildlife to admire and a breathtaking beach.

The setting is heavenly and makes you forget the rest. Just don't go for the bed: the mattress and bedding feel like they date from the year of the chestnut mare. It's Grandma's house, and for the price, they really could replace them.
