We were on our way to Johannesburg and stopped for dinner with a big group. The table was loaded with seven steaks and other tasty dishes, yet it came to under 25 euros per person. The food was great, and the service was too. I'd happily recommend eating here.

The bathroom was a highlight, with a modern feel and a fantastic tub. The rooms themselves were a little dim and worn, but the view and fireplace made things cozy. Check-in felt robotic. Fine for a one-night stopover.

We were in stable number 1 and didn't enjoy the stay. The bed was very small, and the shower was difficult to use because the water pressure was poor and there was a random step right under the shower head. I wouldn't recommend it.

The lodge has a classic feel, and sitting by the fireplace with fly fishing around makes for a hard-to-beat stay. There are lots of ducks too. I was concerned that guests paying by card can't add a staff tip to the bill. Staff must be missing out on a chunk of gratuities. I asked about it but got brushed off.

After a terrible stay at Dullstroom inn, where the mattress and everything else were filthy, we had to change plans at the last minute. At Critchley Hackle Lodge, reception helped us straight away. The staff were so welcoming, the place was clean and peaceful, and the food was amazing. Such lovely service and a beautiful place. Highly recommend staying at Critchley Hackle Lodge.
