Royal Ushaka Hotel- Morningside

I’ve stayed here many times and make it my home whenever I’m in Durban. The rooms are up to standard, the air conditioners work, and there’s safe parking. It’s also close to the mall, and the staff are professional.

We ended up in Durban unexpectedly and stayed at Royal Ushaka Hotel. The place was easy to find, clean, and comfortable. Our room was cleaned daily, and the staff were friendly. It was a good stay.

The noise from guests on the upper floors was bad in the early hours. Even in the “higher end” room, the towels, pillowcases, and curtains were badly stained, and there were traces of dried bodily fluids on the linen and little side pillows. Reception was handled by someone’s aunty who had no people skills or etiquette. By international standards, I’d call this “hotel” a sleazy motel. If you have any self-respect, don’t book it.

The old linen has set-in stains and a lingering smell. There’s no manager on site, and the rooms and showers smell too. The place isn’t maintained, reception staff don’t speak English, and the staff are rude.
