The Edward Hotel

The location and hotel have potential, but the service was poor. The inexperienced team made us feel like a nuisance over simple things, even just sitting down for breakfast. At 11pm, while we were asleep, reception called about our colleague, although we'd explained several times that they were checking in the next day. Next time I'll look for a small independent place that pays attention to its staff and facilities.

The quiet, romantic atmosphere made this a lovely night away, and our room was spotless, cozy, and really comfortable. Dinner and breakfast were both delicious, with care put into how the food looked and tasted. We booked the Couples Date Night Special, and the hotel views added a magical touch. Every staff member we met was warm and attentive. We left feeling refreshed and well looked after. I'd recommend it to couples wanting a romantic escape.

The food was disappointing too. My aunt's Tuscan Chicken was already getting cold when it arrived, and my Thai seafood pasta was so oily I had to ask for a bowl to drain some off. Staff only started checking on us now and then after our meals were served. We had booked a table for two at the Edward Hotel restaurant, and it became one of the worst dining experiences I've had. It was quiet, with only a few tables occupied, and our waitress let us choose where to sit and gave us menus. Before we could properly look through them, she asked about drinks. There were very few non-alcoholic options, so we settled on juice. Even that took a long time to arrive. After ordering food, we waited well over 30 minutes without an update, explanation, or anyone checking on us. Our waitress seemed to have vanished. Given how quiet it was, the lack of attention was hard to excuse. No manager came by to check on guests or deal with the delay. When I finally went looking for someone because I worried our order had been forgotten, another waiter checked and later brought the food. There was still no apology or explanation. At payment, we asked what had happened to our original waitress and were told she was a trainee whose shift had ended. It seemed our table had been left without a proper handover. It felt like a shared failure: the trainee left without arranging cover, management didn't monitor the service, and the kitchen seemed unconcerned that food was sitting for so long. This was an unforgettable, extremely distasteful experience, especially as I'd never had such poor restaurant service before.

The buffet had some nice choices, and the dessert was delicious, though I'd have liked more vegetarian options. We did have trouble with the tea station and saw cockroaches, but the experience was good overall.
