44 On Ennis Guest Lodge and Restaurant

The atmosphere added to an already great meal. The meat was tender, full of flavor, and cooked just right. It was the most delicious meat we've ever had, and the food quality went beyond what we expected. I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys a really good meal.

The restaurant was a real highlight. Over our two nights, we tried the Cape Malay curry and lamb shank, both delicious, and breakfast was outstanding too. The service was friendly throughout. We arrived needing help after our vehicle broke down, and Peter the owner went out of his way to accommodate us, finding a large room with a freezer for all our luggage. We'll be back! 😎

After we had paid for our year-end function at 44 on Ennis, details kept changing. The promised tables were given to other guests while we were setting up, and when we pointed out that this wasn't what we'd agreed, we were told the owner wouldn't give up R2000. The menu changed at the last minute too, with chocolate brownies replaced by dreadful Malva pudding. There weren't enough chairs, so faded outdoor chairs were brought in, and we had a mix of plates because they didn't have enough. We were even given butter knives for steak. Pricing and arrangements seemed to keep shifting. This was completely unacceptable. If you agree to provide a service for a price, you should stick to it. We were paying guests too.

It's a really nice place to be if you're not planning to sleep. The problem is the lodge's spring-core mattress: I could feel the metal springs, which is a no-go for anyone. It needs to be changed.
