Ingwenya Guesthouse

The guest house looks neat, but the service was very poor. The kettle didn’t work, and there was no hot water for a bath at night. The old single beds were so cramped I couldn’t even turn over. Most things seemed not to work. You get locked inside the house, and the gate is locked too. It felt like being a prisoner. Very bad.

We hardly slept either night and didn’t feel safe. On both evenings, we returned to find a party in the kitchen and lounge right outside our rooms. The first group was about ten people, including the hostess and other guests. The second night the party was bigger, louder, and wilder, and the host was intoxicated again. Those guests were also using the bathrooms we’d been told were private. The website says the bathrooms are private, but they’re shared. The hostess told us at check-in they’d be for our private use, which wasn’t true. The bathroom mats were filthy, and we had to ask for toilet paper. We weren’t given a key or gate remote either. On Sunday morning we were locked inside until the host woke up and let us out. That was inconvenient and unsafe in an emergency. The kitchen was filthy, with dirty dishes, pots, glasses, and leftover food. The TVs didn’t work, though that wasn’t a major issue. We had to ask for glasses both evenings, and there was no kettle. The second night, the owner was called to the guesthouse. She apologized and agreed to a refund, and said she’d return at 06:00 the next morning to get more details. She never showed up, and they’ve refused even a partial refund. Absolutely shocking.

The clean room and fresh linen made the money feel well spent.

The rooms were clean and nice, and the receptionist was a really helpful, friendly lady.
