The staff were great and the food was good, but the rooms have gone downhill. The towels are old, and the pillows had oil stains. It all felt very basic and poorly maintained. It used to be much better, so I’m not sure how it has the reviews it does. I can’t fault the staff; they’re working with what they’ve got.

We were looking for a place to stay and saw izimbali on Booking.com, where seven rooms showed as available. Since we were just down the street, we went to ask in person. The gate guard said there was no availability, even when we showed him the Booking.com listing. That kind of mix-up points to poor management or marketing. We ended up getting help from the place on Ennis.

Room 7 was neat and comfortable, and the lodge itself is clean, well kept, and very peaceful. It’s a lovely setting for a rest. I did find a worrying problem in the bathroom: water came from both the shower head and the wall, and I felt an electric current when I touched the shower fittings. It could be an issue with the geyser isolation or electrical contact with the taps, and may be dangerous if it isn’t fixed promptly. I reported it to management straight away so they could investigate.

Nyoni 1 has beautiful artwork and a lot of character, but the service let it down. Coffee, sugar, and shampoo weren’t replenished when the room was made up. The Wi-Fi was poor, and during bad weather it was switched off without warning guests. There were only four SABC channels, and they kept coming and going. The shower wasn’t okay, and the food was just okay. Breakfast was a big disappointment, with limited choices. Pap and mince shouldn’t be served for breakfast. The place has potential if customer satisfaction mattered more than cost.

This wasn’t a comfortable place to stay. The room was closer to a two-star standard than a four-star one, and it hadn’t been cleaned properly. There was dirt and dust under the bed, which I had to ask them to clean. Some light bulbs were missing too, and I had to request replacements. The towels looked shocking, extremely old and thin. The bathroom was very dark and old, and there was a broken chair no one had noticed. It felt like nobody cared or checked what needed repairing or improving. The place is on a busy, noisy road with lots of trucks, so getting onto the road in the morning can be difficult. Filthy place, Carly’s filthy.
