Jonquil Cottage

The rooms are very small, and the bathroom has no hand wash, shower gel, or body lotion. The taps are badly scaled, so water comes out in odd splashes. The bathrobes feel like cardboard, the outside area needs some grooming, and there’s an odd smell throughout the place. The owners have two dogs, so be prepared for barking. The upstairs bedroom has no door, so for privacy you have to close a section downstairs. Water also doesn’t get pumped up to that room.

We felt right at home here. The property was lovely, clean, and thoughtfully equipped, and our hosts were incredibly helpful. It’s also perfectly placed for the shops, restaurants, and, of course, the Wine Tram.

The house worked especially well for a longer stay: the rooms are spacious, the kitchen has everything you need, and with the fast internet and good TV it quickly feels like home. We also liked the garden seating and the open fire in the living room. The hosts were friendly, and the location was convenient. The dogs bark quite a bit, though they’re quiet at night and seem to be there as guards. Parking inside is a little awkward, but parking outside felt safe too.

Flooding left us stuck and needing to stay an extra night. Our hosts arranged food and checked that we were all right, which was so kind. The place itself was comfortable and very well equipped for two couples, and the hosts were fantastic.
