The property was clean, though quite dated, and the poor old dog Lola barked for attention for an hour on our first night. The worst part came when the owner accused us of “making off without payment” and threatened twice to call the police. As far as we knew, the booking had been paid in full. Our records on the booking platform showed that, and after checking our card details and emails and calling the agent, we were told payment had been made. We left all our contact details and asked for time to look into it further. When we got home from holiday, a letter arrived repeating the accusation and saying the owner was justified in calling the police because “making off without payment is a criminal offence.” I know that is true, but we hadn’t made off. We tried every way we could to help sort it out. I’ve booked accommodation for years and have never been treated like this. The owner should think about whether he’s suited to providing hospitality. If you’re reading this, consider paying a little more to stay somewhere more focused on customers. Hopefully you won’t be threatened as we were.

We got a friendly welcome to spacious self-catering accommodation with a very nice kitchen. The setting was cosy, with a lovely pool area and stunning views.

We really enjoyed our stay in these lovely little apartments. They were quiet, safe, and comfortable, and it was easy to get to Franschhoek and the wine tram. Great value for the money.

The accommodation was okay, and I was glad to have a top sheet on the bed, which is rarely provided. But the mosquitoes and dogs were irritating, and the gate alarm kept us awake until after 11 at night. We had a 10-hour drive the next day, so that was really difficult. Google sent us the wrong way, right into the middle of the vineyards, and turning around there with a trailer was stressful. I also tried making suggestions about better communication and sending guests the correct location in advance, but they weren’t well received.

The guesthouse is spacious, with two bedrooms and enormous king-sized beds. It’s a lovely private spot, yet only a stone’s throw from the town centre. Out front there’s a private pool and vineyards where they make their own Cabernet Sauvignon. It’s an ideal, affordable base for exploring the Franschhoek Wine Valley.
