La Providence Guest House & Wine Farm

Ellen and Gary were so helpful and great hosts, and the breakfast was lovely, with a buffet as well as food made to order. We had a lovely honeymoon stay, and they added some nice touches for the occasion. The rooms were lovely, with incredibly comfy beds. The location is fine, just off the main road, and an easy 10-15 minute walk into town.

They show rooms as available on their website, but wouldn’t accept our booking for more than two people at a time. Their excuse was that nine adults would take up half the guest house, which, as I understand it, operates like a hotel. If you owned a guest house, would you really turn down five of ten rooms because that was too much business? We couldn’t persuade them to accommodate our family of nine. If you’re travelling as a family, I’d definitely look elsewhere.

Ellen and Gary were perfect hosts, welcoming us warmly, and their breakfast was delicious every morning. The hotel has a large pool area with incredible views, which is why we chose it, and we weren’t disappointed. It’s also within walking distance of Franschhoek. I’d recommend the vineyard rooms, which have your own patio and space.

Gary, Ellen, and all the staff were so friendly, helpful, and accommodating. They looked after our bags safely before check-in and were invaluable in arranging reservations and transport. The hotel is in a beautiful, peaceful spot at the edge of Franschhoek, with vineyards, restaurants, and shops close by. Breakfast was fantastic, cooked to order and delicious. La Providence was the last stop on our South Africa trip, and it ended the holiday perfectly while making us even sadder to leave. The property is absolutely beautiful, with what must be one of the best pools with a view in Franschhoek. We highly recommend it. It felt like a home from home. Gary and Ellen, it was great to meet you, and thank you for making the final stop so special.
