We were two 20 year old Canadians and stayed at the hostel for about four nights. I felt safe as a young woman both inside and around the hostel, and the washrooms and shared kitchens were the cleanest I’ve seen among the hostels I’ve stayed in. The staff were really helpful, too. Our room window was broken, so it got a little cold, but a couple of different staff members checked in to see if we were okay with it. The carpet in our room was pretty dirty, which is why I can’t give it five stars. For travellers aged 18-26, it’s an ideal place.

The house has old furniture and ornaments that gave me the feeling of visiting my gran. I loved that. The hosts are lovely, friendly, and welcoming, and the place is clean. There are only two bathrooms, which was my one issue, but they were kept clean.

I paid R250 for a dorm bed, but because the owner knew I was taking a study course, he kindly gave me my own room so I could work in peace. It had everything I needed, and the bed was so comfortable that I slept for 11 hours, even though I usually get only four hours in unfamiliar places. After six years working in hospitality, I can say this is well above an average backpackers. It was spotless, at hotel cleanliness level, and had a very peaceful, homely feel. The owner has also served the community through the rotary club for many years. I highly recommend staying here. Book now.

The rooms are really clean, and the caring woman who runs the place made me feel at home in a new town. It’s very convenient, too. Small TVs in the rooms are the one thing missing, and with those I’d give it five stars.
