The staff were wonderful, always welcoming, genuinely friendly and helpful. Dinner and breakfast were both delicious and beautifully presented. We loved the little thoughtful touch of having cups and tea bags ready for evening tea, and coming back after dinner to turndown service was such a treat. You don’t see that much anymore. Our comfortable room had everything we needed, and the place has gorgeous décor and a warm, welcoming feel from the minute you arrive. We loved the peacocks! Such a memorable stay from beginning to end at this truly beautiful 5-star hotel. We’d definitely recommend this little gem.

Dinner and breakfast were both beautifully prepared, full of flavour, and served with the same high standard as everything else. The rooms were pristine and beautifully kept, with lovely linen and thoughtful touches that made us really comfortable. We also enjoyed the inviting spaces, from the elegant seating areas to the quiet corners where you can relax. From the moment we arrived, the team at The Hawthorne Boutique Hotel welcomed us with genuine warmth. The service was attentive and professional, always delivered with friendly smiles. It made for a really special stay, and we can’t wait to return.

The accommodation itself had clearly been prepared with care and attention to detail, and I appreciated that. But poor staff conduct, inadequate training, and a lack of accountability, especially in the restaurant, undermined the stay. Your lower guest ratings reflect this, and it’s concerning that repeated feedback seems to get generic replies instead of meaningful corrective action. Over time that could seriously damage your reputation, since hospitality comes down to the small details. We booked an executive suite with breakfast included. After an uncomfortable interaction with a waitress, possibly named Mary Ann or Lee Ann, I decided not to eat and just had water. She was abrupt and unnecessarily harsh, handled cutlery and dishes aggressively, and spoke sharply to other staff across the room, making it feel unwelcoming. The way the breakfast inclusion was explained, including the limit of one coffee, was inappropriate and unprofessional, especially given the room rate. That interaction took away from much of what was otherwise a positive experience. Service is not only what gets delivered, but how it’s delivered. Attitude, professionalism, and presence matter. You can’t fake it until you make it, energy doesn’t lie.

The peacocks were lovely to see and added charm, though they might bother light sleepers with their noise. We found the parking secure, and the safe was excellent. The hotel is a lovely base in George for nearby attractions. Breakfast had plenty of choice, while dinner options were a little limited. What we ate at the forester restaurant was great, especially the chicken supreme and lamb rump. They kindly brought my mom complimentary cake for her birthday.

We waited while the chef made us a deconstructed lemon meringue, and it was one of the best dishes we've ever had. I only wish we'd taken a photo. Thanks to the chef for putting so much care and attention into it. We'll be back!
