The washroom facilities were fine, but the rest of the resort looked somewhere between okay and poor. The infrastructure is old and doesn’t seem to be maintained regularly. For example, broken wooden boards haven’t been replaced. We stayed at campsite S22, with a large generator right behind us, behind site S21. It was nothing like a small campervan generator, more like a ship’s engine, and putting it between the campsites was a mistake. There was no way to escape the noise, and nobody told us it would be running. When we asked, they said it was only used if the communal power failed, but they should mention it anyway, especially if outages are common. It ran from 6pm to 10pm, then started again at 6am. Forget a relaxed evening or a slow morning. The reception has a chalkboard listing generator hours, but they don’t stick to them. They say it powers the whole resort, yet when we tried to charge our toothbrush while it was running, there was no power for it, and the receptionist had no explanation. When I asked that morning for a partial refund because we hadn’t been told in advance, the receptionist got really angry. I said it wasn’t fair to guests. She said she’d pass the complaint to management, though I seriously doubt it. The generator should be placed well away from the camping area or put in proper housing. The receptionist didn’t seem interested in my complaint. I’d read recent bad reviews but decided to try it anyway. I won’t come back. This place isn’t suitable for camping.

The outdoor staff really stood out. They went out of their way to help with our luggage several times, unload after trips, and even wash my boat. Their service and attitude were excellent. The room and housekeeping, though, were disappointing. There was a strong mould smell and what looked like mould in the carpets, the bedding smelled noticeably of bleach, and the mattresses were so hard it was uncomfortable to rest. The housekeeping staff weren’t very friendly or welcoming. The rooms and housekeeping need serious improvement.

The beach was fantastically close and full of wildlife, but the unit was extremely dated, right down to the kitchen equipment and bathroom fittings. There didn’t seem to be enough staff to look after the place properly. The electricity kept getting disrupted, and the facility couldn’t reliably keep power going. There’s a lot more I could say, but I’ll leave it there.

The rooms were lovely, clean, well equipped, and had comfortable beds. But it could get noisy when other tenants walked around in the middle of the night. The biggest problem was the smell from a nearby sewerage works. It was unbearable, and a real put-off while having a braai. It got into the unit even with the windows and doors shut. Such a pity.

I’m counting the hours until checkout, but unfortunately we booked three nights. This cabin is old and dirty. The carpets are stained and smell musty, the stove looks rusty and like it hasn’t been cleaned in years, there was hair in the fridge, and food stains on the curtains and walls. I’m absolutely disappointed and disgusted. I’d never recommend it. The place needs major upgrades and renovations.
