137 High Street Guest House

The food was fantastic, and the rooms were beautiful and clean. Everyone was so welcoming, understanding and helpful, and they let me check in a little early. There’s safe parking off the street. I’d give the place 6/5 if I could.

The free internet was super fast, and there’s a rechargeable lamp in the room for loadshedding. Even with lots of loadshedding, the kitchen staff served a very decent breakfast. The room was large, with a big bed and fresh, clean linen. The room service staff were so kind, and my room always smelled fresh. I liked the air freshener they used. 137 High Street Guest House is right in the heart of Makhanda, within walking distance of good restaurants and places of interest around town. Check-in is listed until 5pm, but I arrived quite late. The lady who checked me in was kind and showed me around the house and to my room, even though it was late at night.

Brown's Guesthouse is good value for money, and I’ll keep coming back. The beds are big, warm and comfortable, the setting is quiet, and the food is delicious. The only thing I wasn’t keen on was the WiFi, which was a bit weak in the rooms.

The food was great and the location very central, but it got a bit noisy. The restaurant is open from 9 until late at night, and there’s only a thin door between it and the room, so I could hear it. Management seemed a little chaotic, though it was peak season.
