After a 12hr drive, we arrived in Makhanda to find the place we'd booked was unacceptable. We called Wayne @ the Cock House after hours, and he made a special effort to fit in 8 people when we needed somewhere to rest. We're so grateful we found a place. Excellent service, Wayne, you're an asset to your establishment.

For my birthday dinner party, they decorated the table with balloons and other cute touches. They also preset the table and bring complimentary homemade fresh bread before the meal, which makes it the only restaurant in Grahamstown to do that. The service is friendly and they always go above and beyond for their customers.

Grahamstown seems to be sliding into decay, which is the one downside. The Cock House restaurant is fine, though, and the food was delicious, so there's no need to risk the streets looking for dinner. The building is beautiful, the staff friendly, and the beers ice cold. What a wonderful stay over.

A crackling Victorian fireplace, a simple but sumptuous menu, and a warm, elegant atmosphere made for an evening well spent. It's in the historic heart of Grahamstown/Makhanda.
