Our family stay had a long list of problems. There was no baby chair in the restaurant. The security guards smoked by the unlit fireplace or boma, sat around the dining area and on the restaurant couches, and played on their phones. The bathwater was unhygienic brown, and the slippery floor had no bathroom mat, creating a slipping risk. There was no mat by the bed to wipe your feet, and the bedding looked old and dirty and smelled bad. The toilet seat was cheap, flimsy plastic and uncomfortable, and there were no hand towels anywhere in the unit. The uncovered bins also didn’t feel safe with a baby around. A cigarette had burned a hole in the bed throw. Our unit, number 20, had such poor outdoor lighting that on a Friday night we couldn’t find the number without a phone torch. It felt unsafe, especially with the family. The unit faced a very busy road, so we couldn’t open the blinds or curtains to enjoy the supposed bush view. There was a frameless mirror that looked bad and seemed unsafe, and no table or bag rest. The plants around the braai were overgrown with weeds, and an old celebration cork was still in the garden bed. The listing showed a fireplace in the lounge, but our unit had none, just a cupboard with uncovered old paint.

The park and house were very clean, and the reception staff were so friendly. There’s a real mix of luxury and adventure here, with lots of thoughtful details that make the place feel special. I’d recommend it for a short visit or a longer stay.

A great Hoedspruit experience. The new restaurant has excellent food and the best service, and the accommodation is top class too.

I booked this place for one night while travelling for business, and it was one of the nicest stays I’ve had in a long time. The unit was fully fitted and had everything I needed for a comfortable break, including a built-in outdoor braai. Ceiling fans and an air conditioner in the bedroom helped with the heat at night. The outdoor shower was a cool feature, and although the units are near one another, they’re far enough apart to give you privacy. I’d recommend it as a weekend getaway. Some units have a small splash pool too, and I’ll book one of those next time.

The outdoor shower was a great feature, and the rooms were nicely designed, though they felt too see-through for me. It was handy that everything for self-catering was provided, but I was uncomfortable with the bed and toilet in the same room. The location was also a little hard to find. The stay was made miserable by mice in the room. They kept me awake all night and even climbed onto the bed. When we told management, nobody responded. The lack of hygiene and the silence from management made for a very unpleasant experience.
