Shumbalala Game Lodge

I loved seeing the elephant family visit the water hole a few times a day. Shumalala lodge also made it easy to feel close to nature, while still giving us lots of care and comfort. The staff were friendly and attentive without being intrusive, and the little touches in the room and on the jeep made the safari feel special. The meals were just right for taste, portion, nutrition, and presentation. I also enjoyed the small story card left each night before bed. There were lots of other surprises too, but I'll keep those to myself. Thank you!

Our game drives were unforgettable thanks to Tony and Calvin. Their knowledge, instincts, and love for the land brought us close to so many amazing animals, including the baby elephants I'll always remember. Shumbalala is a romantic, intimate lodge tucked beautifully into the bush. Joanna and Maddie welcomed us so warmly that we felt at home straight away. Tendekah took such good care of us, and Yvonne kept our room spotless. Every thoughtful little touch mattered, and the hospitality and meals were wonderful. Seriously, the food was incredible. We'll carry these memories with us forever. Highly, highly recommend!

The game drives were the highlight of our honeymoon. Emilio and Sam went out of their way to help us find all the animals we hoped to see. They knew the wildlife so well, and Emilio's respect and care for the animals was especially admirable. The food was delicious too. Every dish was wonderful, which was more than we expected from meals in the heart of the bush. Big compliments to the chef. The whole property was immaculate despite being in the middle of Thornybush Game Reserve, thanks in large part to Gertrude and the maintenance team. My husband and I couldn't have asked for a better stay. From beginning to end, the attention to detail and service were 10/10. Every staff member was warm and truly cared about making our honeymoon special. Special thanks to Danielle, Joanna, Lillian, and Thandeka for their hospitality. Every detail exceeded our expectations, and we can't wait to come back!

The watering hole right at the lodge was a real treat. We watched elephants, hyenas, lions, giraffes, and plenty more from our room and terrace. The staff were welcoming and delivered exceptional service, including a surprise bubble bath and dinner in our room one night. Other meals came with memorable settings: the wine cellar overlooking the watering hole, the dining room with its big fire, and dinner on the terrace by the fire pit. We spent four nights here for our honeymoon, and the place exceeded every expectation. Bryce and Tony were remarkable on the game drives. We saw leopard cubs playing in a tree, lions and leopards fighting over a kill, baby hippo, rhino, and elephant, plus several lion hunts and leopards. The sightings happened at different times of day, with the animals doing all kinds of things. The vehicles were well thought out, with five star bush happy hour and breakfast service in the mornings. There were only six people per car, and Shumbalala was first on the scene at least half the time. Their expertise was impressive. The chefs also blew us away with creative, thoughtful menus, beautiful presentation, and food of an amazing quality. Thanks to everyone. Shumbalala is well worth the money, and I'd highly recommend a stay!
