Hoeveld House

The house is a little dated, but clean and secure, and we never felt unsafe. Safety was a priority for us, so the high walls around the hotel complex and the ample security were reassuring. The staff were very kind, and breakfast was reasonable. Its location worked well for Parkhurst Street, Sandton Mall, and Melville. We couldn't use the pool because of the weather, though the pool area looked wonderful.

They kindly let me check out late, which I really appreciated. The staff were friendly, helpful and flexible throughout. My room was clean and well maintained, and I had a wonderful stay. I'd definitely return.

We booked a larger room and were delighted with it. There was a separate walk-in closet and two spacious bathrooms, one with a bathtub and a lovely view of the tropical garden. In the evening, we had a bottle of red wine from the bar on our private balcony, looking out at the lit garden. It was almost completely quiet, apart from the birds. The four-poster bed was magnificent, and the mattresses were perfect. Breakfast was lovely too, in a bright room with the terrace doors open to the lush garden. For our short visit to Johannesburg, Hoeveld House was the best choice. The hotel shuttle picked us up reliably at the airport and brought us safely to the beautiful Sandton boutique hotel. Our flight was early, so we arrived at 9 a.m. The booked room wasn't ready, but they kindly gave us a small room to shower and change in, and a place to leave our luggage. We really appreciated that. Many thanks to Andrew, who arranged the early check-in and takes such good care of this stately property. It feels like an elegant private home from another time, while still offering modern comforts. We can wholeheartedly recommend it.

The hospitality was terrible, and the room I'd booked was full of dust. No one helped with my luggage at checkout. This place has real potential, and with good management I think it could reach 4 star, but what I paid doesn't match the service provided.
