Kings Lodge Hotel

A proper old country inn, with nothing to complain about. We loved the tasty food and the 100% service, and enjoyed Hogsback’s quaint feel. City folk need a place like this. We’ll be back for a third visit to Kings Lodge. Thanks to Brent and the team.

The dining room has a fireplace, and the place is filled with bits and pieces from a bygone era along the main road. We came for an early dinner after hearing good things about the food. We ordered Butter Chicken curry and Lamb curry. Both were a little too spicy for our sensitive souls, though full of flavour. For reference, even pepper is spicy to me. The waiter was attentive and let us know when the food would be ready. I’d recommend the food and the service.

Our kids booked at the last minute and stayed in the Cottage. We went by to say goodbye and were shocked by its condition. The stoep railings were missing in places, slats were loose all over, and the inside looked neglected and very outdated. The ceilings were smoke covered, and the fireplace setup was dangerous, with a burned wooden backboard. There was no shower, and they were told hot water takes ages to get to that cottage because it’s last in the row from a donkey. I understand the charm of old, rustic places, and I love that look, but this cottage was just too much.

My dad and I felt welcome and appreciated as soon as we arrived. The staff are kind and helpful, and they’ll suggest places to visit and help you think about your safety if you ask. We enjoyed the food and the rooms. It was a bit cold, which made sense since the temperature outside was low, and they kindly made us a fire to warm up. I’m still in touch with the lady there, and she’s lovely and very helpful.
