The views are amazing, enough to make the muddy drive worthwhile. I’d recommend a 4x4, since the dirt road can be awful during or after rain, even though many people have made the trip in a regular car. Staff were friendly, helpful, and very welcoming. The rooms have an old-style design, and some things were broken or didn’t work. Our patio door wouldn’t open or lock, and the gas fireplace didn’t work, though we overlooked these issues. There’s no fridge or warmer blankets if you need them, but the electric blanket did the trick. Bring your own adapters for chargers and such. We knew we were in the Midlands, but the troop of monkeys rumbling on our roof at 6am was a rude awakening. By the second night, we’d got used to it.

The restaurant has a great view, and the food is always super delicious. Breakfast was wonderful too. The units are lovely and have everything you need, with beautiful walks all around and a great place to stay with dogs. It’s a gorgeous spot and not too far off the main road.

The service was excellent, and the rooms were clean, well equipped, and had thoughtful details. The food was excellent too. Lythwood Lodge sits in a magnificent spot among the rolling hills of the Kwazulu Natal Midlands, a beautiful piece of paradise. I’d recommend it.

John, the coordinator, worked tirelessly to keep everything running smoothly and make sure our family and friends were happy from check-in onward. We had our wedding celebrations at Lythwood this past weekend, and it was absolutely perfect. The food, service from the waiters, waitresses, and barman, the atmosphere, and everyone’s friendliness made it the best weekend for my groom and me, and for all who attended. We can’t thank you enough, Lythwood Lodge 🤍🙏🏼.

Our two-bedroom cottage was beautiful and in immaculate condition. They’d left the tastiest crunchies, tea, coffee, and hot chocolate sachets, plus milk in the fridge. Staff were super efficient and friendly, and the restaurant food was very tasty. What an awesome place, we’ll definitely revisit. Thanks for a wonderful stay.
