8/10

The garden view and comfortable bed made for a pleasant overnight stop, and the room was generous, with a fireplace and electric blankets for cooler nights. The bathroom felt a little tired, though the staff were super. We had a good supper after a long drive, and breakfast had great choices. The property has a charming yesteryear feel, with lovely gardens running down to paddocks and pretty horses. We were on our way to the South Coast and didn’t explore the area, so I can’t really comment on the location. It’s not far from the highway, which was convenient. We’d definitely stay again.

The room was clean, and having a fireplace and bundle of wood was welcome. It’s a little dated, including the TV, which looked like an old CRT from 20 years ago, but there’s so much to do around the area that you don’t spend much time in the room. Breakfast was 10/10, and the location along Curry’s Post road was lovely. We’ll be back!

The mountain views and open green spaces with horses were lovely, and there’s a pool, bar, and living game room too. I didn’t stay overnight, but I’d like to try it sometime. We stopped at Halliwell Country Inn for a meal while exploring Curry's Post for its hidden gems, and it was just the comfortable, home-cooked food we needed. It has a traditional, old wood look and a cozy country feel. The restaurant has a fireplace that must make the room feel homey when lit on a cold night. Our food was well cooked and tasty, and the prices seemed good: starters from R90 and mains from R150.

Dinner was lovely, with generous portions, but breakfast was very average. The artisan bread was soggy, and I found a hair in my mushrooms. I’ve stayed here quite a few times over the years and wanted my children to experience it, so I left a little disappointed. It’s a beautiful venue with old-world charm and lovely, huge rooms with comfortable beds, but ours really needed a facelift. The room heater didn’t work, and there was only one heater for two rooms. The fireplace is open, so we didn’t want a smoky room. We arrived at 4:30 pm when it was 8°C, but the lounge and bar lights were off, there was no fire, and no music. It didn’t feel welcoming like it had on past visits. We had to ask for a fire in the bar and for music in the dining area, which only came on halfway through our meal. A disappointing stay at a place that usually delivers.
