On the morning of 25 Dec 2025, I got a really poor welcome at breakfast in the dining hall. The man and woman at the door didn’t even say good morning. They asked for our room number sharply, in another language, instead of English. I thought that was bad enough, but then another family came in and got the complete opposite, so much kindness. Just eww.

I’m at theGold reef city hotel right now, and the service is terrible. The staff aren’t friendly or professional, just rude and bad-tempered. I hate to bring race into it, but it feels obvious. It’s my husband’s birthday, and they’ve made it a really bad one so far. I hate this place. It’s ruined our holiday, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

We walked in, saw how old and tacky it was, and immediately cancelled our booking and left. The service was terrible too. This hotel seems best suited to first-time travelers who don’t know what to expect. Avoid it. Avoid it. Avoid it.

We were told at 2 pm that they were only starting to clean the rooms then, right when guests were meant to check in. We’d flown in with kids who had been up since 5 am. I don’t understand why cleaning starts at check-in time. What a start to our holiday.

The bedding had blood stains that looked like they’d been there for ages. We were supposed to have a non-smoking room, but it definitely smelled of smoke, unlike the room two doors down that our family member had. The air conditioner didn’t blow cold either. Very glad we only stayed one night.
