The location was great, and the apartment felt clean and welcoming. We especially loved the fresh, homemade breakfasts, including a perfect vegan option. Christiane was so warm and helpful, even offering us rides to the events we wanted to attend. We had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend it in Johannesburg.

After spending the day on a bus from Eswatini to Johannesburg, we arrived at our booking.com reservation at home cottage as it was getting dark and raining. The gate was shut, nobody was there to meet us, and repeated calls went unanswered. I rang the bell for about half an hour, but no one opened the gate. Thankfully I had data, so I ordered an Uber to Sandton and found a hotel, though it cost more. Booking.com replied to my email the next day to say home cottage couldn't host us despite the accepted reservation. They apologized and refunded the money, but home cottage never apologized. We were left outside in the rain at night with nowhere to stay. What if we hadn't had internet to arrange transport, or didn't know Johannesburg at all? This is a warning to anyone considering a reservation there.
