The ladies in the kitchen were so cool, and I met an amazing gentleman, Tony, by the pool. What beautiful energy, ahahahah! The staff are really friendly and Melville House felt like home. I’ll definitely be back. Thanks again, Melville House.

The location has some nice, friendly reception staff, but I wouldn’t recommend staying here unless it’s your last resort. Management and enforcement of standards seemed lacking throughout, and the hygiene was shockingly poor. The cleaner was rude and did a bad job. Other reviews have also said she doesn’t deserve the job. The shared areas were used by schoolchildren, university students, and other loud, annoying groups who weren’t effectively controlled. My biggest problem was being woken early each morning to move my car because other guests needed to leave. There’s no proper space or system for reserving parking spots, so guests are made to do this. I’d booked the most expensive room available and still got woken at dawn to move my car. It showed no respect for guests. Staff also showed an uncanny lack of empathy, compassion, and basic etiquette when guests questioned the venue’s integrity.

The place may look comfortable, but it really wasn’t. The pool was empty, the walls were peeling in many spots, and the room was freezing with a wall heater that barely worked. During the pandemic, the owners weren’t wearing masks while speaking face to face with me at reception as I paid. I paid a little over R600 and regretted it right away. It’s cold and unwelcoming, and if you know what your money is worth, don’t stay here. It isn’t worth it.
