Back in 2020, when the pandemic was at its height and my family couldn't leave the country, I chose this business for their stay. Over time the owner, Somayya, came across as greedy and made things very difficult for my family member. She cooked vegetarian food, but also helped herself to the food she'd provided during the stay. There was no deal for the six weeks, yet she had plenty of complaints about the paying guest. I've posted some screenshots of her messages as evidence of her ‘hospitality’.

Somayya Gangat made me feel welcome and gave me a warm bed, lovely food and lots of love. I stayed with her from 24 to 26 June 2019. She's friendly and creative, and clearly enjoys cooking. Breakfast and supper were amazing, so I didn't feel any need to go out for supper. If you're visiting Johannesburg, give this guesthouse a try. It would work well for international, corporate or holiday travel. You have to experience this South African hospitality. Thank you, Somayya.

My mother and I just stopped in for breakfast and got such a warm welcome from Somayya and Sis Beauty. The area was peaceful, and the food tasted like a homemade meal made with love. Somayya's chakni on eggs is my absolute favourite!

I've always loved staying at Somayya's. She's a charm herself and such a lovely host, with that "old world charm" about her place. I'm actually her friend, and it was lovely to see her again after such a long time. I definitely need to make visiting a habit.

It's a gorgeous old Johannesburg house, well placed near the media broadcasting centres and universities. The hostess is so welcoming and friendly, and her food is delicious. Every breakfast and dinner is different and better than the one before, you'll want to stay for many nights! You can also book it for group brunches.
