Twickenham Guest House

This place is amazing. Nomvula, Thokozani, and Sandra on the staff make it feel like a home away from home.

The first dinner was excellent: hake, vegetables and green salad. But I’d told them when booking that I eat Halaal and don’t eat chicken, and chicken kept being served. After I reminded them for the third time, they made me hake for lunch, then said chicken was on offer again at supper, so I ordered Steers takeaway. They also promised to iron my shirts but never did. Breakfast was bacon and eggs, which of course wasn’t Halaal.

The breakfasts were great, and the staff were so friendly and helpful that I felt almost at home. I spent nearly two months here for work and was glad I chose it. The guesthouse is in a well-kept 19th-century house, with its authentic interior alongside the modern comforts and facilities I needed. The neighborhood has old houses and green spaces, feels peaceful and safe, and there’s a lovely garden to relax in.

The food alone keeps bringing me back. We’ve had several writing retreats here, and every day’s meals were a pleasure. It works well for a small group, since the boardroom is small. The ladies on staff are amazing too.
