The setting is great and the host was friendly. We also appreciated the well-stocked honesty bar and the board games for rainy days. Compared with other Africa Camps, our camp tent was missing things like umbrellas, a covered braai area, and a hot tub. Having to cook our pre-ordered braai meals inside was a bit of a letdown. The pan and small oven need replacing, and some of the window zippers are broken. The water keeps switching between hot and cold. They use septic tanks, and sometimes, depending on the wind, a smell lingers for a while, though it does go away.

The sound of the little rapids on the Sabie river right outside the tent was just what I needed. Mackers africamps is part of the northern region near the Kruger set of africamps we were hoping to complete, and it was well worth the stop. There are plenty of activities close by, and Kruger gate is a quick hop away. Absolutely stunning spot. The honesty shop is a nice feature. The welcome party asks if you've been there, so you'll get reminded about it. The pool is nice to have, though I'd rather use the little hot tub by my tent for privacy, whether I want to cool off or warm up without having to engage with anyone. The hiking trail is a bit of a bummer. It's a good walk, but there's no loop, so you go all the way to a sign saying 'the end' and then have to turn around. Be prepared for that. The geysers in the rooms were also a bit wonky: we'd get great hot water, then it would turn cold instantly, so we had to turn the tap off and try again. Ryan was great. We left a card in the tent and he sent it back to us.

We spent two weeks at Mackers and absolutely loved our stay. The surroundings and the place itself are amazing, and the owners and staff did everything they could to make it unforgettable. I'd recommend Mackers to anyone staying around Hazyview.

A great spot for a weekend away, with a top location. Just pack everything you'll need, though the Honestly store is very handy.

Tent 9 was basic but clean and really comfortable. The rapids outside made such lovely, peaceful sounds that we fell asleep to them every night. We adored our three nights at Africamps @Mackers and can't wait to come back. The pool area is lovely, and the short hiking trail was fun. The honesty shop had pretty much everything we needed, and check-in and check-out were easy to do ourselves, with no complicated welcome. My only cooking request would be a salt and pepper grinder. The salt sachets weren't quite enough for this sodium-lover, so we'll bring our own next time. Our little girl already misses the border collie named Pig!
