Avoca River Cabins

As a place to get away and unwind, it has its appeal. But our rooms had no Wi-Fi coverage, so we had to go outside to get online, which made the stay unpleasant. There were no TVs in the rooms either, and we were told breakfast wasn’t included even though the online listing said it was.

We enjoyed the swimming, the children’s playgrounds and the river facilities at Avoca. The stay had its little bumps, though. Wi-Fi was weak or absent in some areas, and the website listed breakfast and laundry among the amenities, but we later found out both had to be arranged separately and cost extra. There was no information in the booklets about where to get laundry done. Still, it was a nice place to stay, just don’t expect everything to run smoothly 😀

The service really impressed us, which makes it a shame that the bathroom in the bushcamp cottage was so dirty. There was mould in the shower, and the drains smelled like pee from the moment we arrived. When we ran the shower, water backed up because the drain was blocked. The more I think about it, the less I want to return, even though it’s such a beautiful place.

We enjoyed every minute at Avoca River Cabin. The cottages feel like a home away from home, with everything we could think of already there, including a garden, stoep, braai area and a big shower. They’re clean, spacious and exceptionally equipped. The playground and pool are lovely too, and the main entrance to Addo Elephant Park is only 20 minutes away.
