Gemstone Guest House

We felt welcome and valued as soon as we arrived at Gemstone Guesthouse, and the hospitality stayed warm and professional throughout. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, prepared with care, and everything felt fresh, clean, and neatly arranged. The whole guesthouse is well looked after, spotless, and peaceful. It really felt like a home away from home. I'd happily return and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Klerksdorp.

I was here for a week on business and had a great stay. Tina was professional and helpful. The rooms are cleaned every morning, and the place is very clean and neat. WiFi coverage was good, and there's a TV with DSTV. They use gas for hot water, so you still get a hot shower when the power is off. Thanks, Gemstone.

While it was raining, the noise was so loud that it sounded like the gutters were right beside where I was sleeping. There was water in a jug in the fridge, but I couldn't tell if it was tap water or something else.

I paid a 50% deposit on 18 October for a one-month January stay, then had to keep asking for a receipt. Every time, I was told, “You’ll receive it on Saturday,” but it never arrived. On Sunday morning they said their bank statement only comes on Mondays, so I waited. When I called on Monday morning and again later that afternoon, I was told it still hadn't come, and then that statements only arrive once a week. I was concerned that I'd have to wait a full week just to get proof of payment. I also asked about faster Wi-Fi. They said they needed to check with the new owner because the guesthouse had been sold and the new owners would take over at the end of November. Nobody had told me this before I paid, so I wasn't sure whether my January booking and deposit would still be valid under the new ownership. I drove over to discuss it in person. The woman on duty was on the phone with the new owner about the Wi-Fi. Once she finished, I explained my concerns politely and asked for the new owner's contact details, but she wouldn't give them to me. I asked for a refund then, but was told it wouldn't be processed right away. I stayed calmly while waiting for it to be sorted. She said, “It doesn’t work like that,” but I felt it was unreasonable to expect me to wait a whole week just to confirm my payment. I ignored the rude comments and waited patiently for the refund. Lizelle 21 October 2025 RESPONSE TO WI-FI COMMENT: Hi Christa, You said I had asked for the Wi-Fi to be upgraded now for the January booking. Please see my original email from 18 October, with the subject “Payment confirmation – 50% deposit (3-31 January)”. I wrote: > “Also, please let us know what the cost would be to upgrade the Wi-Fi speed with Herotel for those dates.” I was clearly asking about an upgrade for the January dates. It wouldn't make sense to request or pay for one three months ahead when the booking is only for January. I meant for the faster Wi-Fi to be active during the booked period, not right away. Tina, the staff member, accused me of lying and said she would “retaliate.” I had only asked for the new owners' phone number so I could confirm my existing bookings before the takeover. I found out about the new owners only after calling again on Monday afternoon, having asked for a receipt since that Saturday. Asking for a receipt was never unreasonable. I have everything recorded, and I won't be intimidated.
