Abalone Lodges

The lagoon view is stunning, and the estate is beautiful and well looked after. There’s a small, neatly kept pool for cooling off. We stayed two nights in January 2025, and I’d recommend it for a short visit to Knysna.

My kids loved the pool and the place, and we’ll definitely come back as a family. The units have everything you need, and the whole place was immaculate. The staff were really pleasant too. Such a gem in Knysna.

We found the place affordable, with good Wi-Fi, easy parking, security gates, and well-equipped units. The location worked well too. Since the buildings are wood, though, noise carries from the neighbouring chalets, so it can get noisy. The bedroom curtains also let in light, so if you’re sensitive to morning light, bring an eye mask. We booked a bedroom with a double bed and a living area with a sofa bed. My wife and I often sleep separately because I snore, which lets her get a good night’s sleep and saves me some grief. When we asked to have the sofa bed made up, we were told it wasn’t an option and was only suitable for children. That hadn’t been advertised. My wife asked why, and learned that the bed’s safe for bed had been damaged and couldn’t take the weight of someone sleeping on it. We had to work out a compromise. I was a bit miffed that we weren’t told when booking.

We visited in 2020 and stayed in the duplex, which had a pretty lake view. The cabin was clean, tidy, and had everything we needed. It was a lovely experience, with the lodges set somewhere peaceful and surrounded by nature. The hospitality was on point, and we’d happily stay again. Highly recommend.
