A charming little boutique hotel in a traditionally styled house, with lovely decor and welcoming hosts. Downtown is a 10 minute walk away, and the location is great. Perfect.

The area with the restaurants and boat departures is a 25 minute walk away, and I didn’t feel safe walking back at night. In my balcony room, the curtains let in enough light that it was bright by 5:30am. The room was quite spacious, but I’d pick a different one next time. The bed looks large, though it’s actually two twin beds, and the room had a musty smell. The pillows need replacing.

The garden is beautiful, and the swimming pool was clean and inviting. Meals were delicious, service was excellent and friendly, and the room was cleaned daily. We saw visitors from many different countries. Yellowwood Lodge is a pleasant place to visit and has a historic heritage, though it’s a shame the building opposite blocks the lovely view. It’s one of the top places to visit in Knysna.

The main house is beautiful, but I found the rooms unappealing and the owner unpleasant. He seemed to watch us all the time, and his dog at the back of the house barked regularly. It was a bad choice for us, and I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

4/10
The garden setting is beautiful and breakfast was good, which makes the condition of the room a real pity. Ours felt outdated and dirty, with an unpleasant smell of damp. There was damp in the bathroom and spiders on the walls, and the linen was stained and smelled stale. The main house has character, but the room just felt off.
