The service was very good, and this is the best guest house.

A few maintenance problems could use attention, though the room itself was well equipped. I appreciated the little extras, including rusks, cappuccino sachets, bottled water, and fresh milk. I was puzzled by parts of my two night stay, especially the lack of contact from anyone. When I travel for work, I like someone to check in now and then and make sure I'm okay. On arrival, a man met me but didn't say who he was or what his role was, perhaps a general worker. I'd booked accommodation with meals, but since the owner was ill and couldn't prepare food, I was handed an envelope with money and had to make other arrangements. That was fine. One afternoon, the town power was out when I returned from work. The room was icy cold in the middle of winter, I couldn't make tea without boiling water, and I couldn't work without Wi-Fi. The guest house had a generator, but it wasn't switched on. At checkout, no one was there except a cleaner who came out of another room and opened the gate for me.

The garden was magnificent and perfectly kept, and the building, fittings, and furnishings all suited the place beautifully. Carel was friendly and capable as a host, and nothing was too much trouble. Everything was sparkling clean and lovely, with all the amenities, and a magnificent breakfast made the morning. What a wonderful find in Lydenburg (Mashishing). I was absolutely blown away and would gladly drive a few extra hours to come back.
