Green Gables Country Inn

The beds were really comfortable, and our host gave us helpful restaurant suggestions and was accommodating when we spoke with them. But the place feels past its best. There were broken lamps, a crooked headboard nailed to the wall, toilet brushes missing the actual brush, and windows that wouldn’t close. The host wasn’t there when we arrived, so another guest had to call and show us to our room. They were also absent at checkout. I wouldn’t stay again.

Sarel was friendly and efficient, and arranged an early check-in so we could get ready for the wedding. We booked both barns and stayed in barn two. The rooms were clean and spacious, with hot blankets that came in handy in the cold. Breakfast was nice, with a choice of muesli and yoghurt or toast and eggs, though the servings were small and I wished there had been more. The bathroom floor was extremely cold, even with the sort-of shower mat. Water pressure was almost nonexistent whenever the barn next door was using water.

After a two-hour drive in 40C heat, being able to check in early for a quick swim and shower before the wedding was great. Sarel, the owner, was welcoming and friendly, and quick to reply by email. The rooms are spacious, the setting is peaceful, and breakfast the next morning was spot on. WiFi was fast and there was plenty of parking. I had a great weekend stay and recommend it.

Sarel helped us out quickly when we needed a last-minute booking. Communication was easy, and we were welcomed with a friendly face. I’d love to come back.
