Ecotel Midrand

The staff were really friendly, and the location is handy, close to shops. I’d say it’s fine for a one night stay. The noise around the pool at night was too much, though, and I couldn’t get a proper sleep.

I wouldn’t book this place again or recommend it to anyone needing a peaceful rest. Guests were shouting, laughing and making noise at 1 a.m., with no consideration for people trying to sleep. It felt more like a youth getaway without much etiquette. On our second day, the women who cleaned the room left the spare key in the door, so the room was unlocked. Our laptops and other valuables were inside. The Wi-Fi also didn’t work about 90% of the time. The following Saturday I had to start my day at 6 a.m., and this was the worst place to choose when I needed to rest before a busy day. The whole experience was really unpleasant.

There are plenty of rooms here, and it’s a great place to rest.

After trying four rooms, I still ended up with a bad one and eventually gave up. The TV aerial reception was unclear, and that room had no Wi-Fi, though at least it didn’t have the huge rocks I’d seen in the others. The linen and towels were worn and off-white, with cigarette burns on the linen. There were holes around the door handle, the basin tiles were below standard, and there wasn’t even a soap holder in the shower. There was nowhere to get ready for the next day, so I left all my things on the bed. I wouldn’t trust the dingy drawer with my belongings. Breakfast had no vegetables. The place wasn’t worth the price, and I wonder if the reviews are false. Really pathetic. I have photos.
