The Doors Inn

Two men came into our room at 02:15 in the morning and stole phones, wallets and clothes while a guest was in the shower. There was no staff around to help for almost 40 minutes. When one staff member finally showed up, they laughed at us. The owner arrived later and was arrogant, calling us gangsters from Cape Town. We felt victimised and stereotyped, and our belongings had been stolen. I wouldn’t recommend staying here if you want to feel safe. The place has high walls, electric wire and lots of cameras, but the cameras along one side of the wall were conveniently switched off. The security guard who was there every night was also off that morning, just as conveniently. We were getting ready to check out at 4am, and obviously they knew we were leaving.

Johan went out of his way to get all our rooms sorted and make sure everything was ready for our evening catering. Our group of 15 had arrived on 24th December after driving 824km, and he patiently settled us in. Victor was a great help too. Johan was there early on Christmas morning to make sure breakfast was in order. The rooms were comfortable. Thank you, Johan and team. I highly recommend this establishment.

The food’s consistency and service have improved over the last few months, but today’s grilled Hake was disappointing compared with the same dish I had here a few weeks ago. It was full of scales that I struggled to get off my tongue and palate. I mentioned to the waiter that the lemon butter sauce was extremely watery, but nothing was done.

The place is beautiful and serene, and Victor in the kitchen made us delicious breakfasts. We stayed with my siblings from 26th to 30th December 2022, and the service was lovely from the start. Manager Johan was friendly and helpful, and the cleaning staff were wonderful and kept the rooms tidy and clean.
