The best thing was the central location in Mossel Bay, close to the restaurants, harbour, and beach. The staff were friendly, but we found the hostel just okay and wouldn’t really recommend it. We stayed in a double room for a night or two, mainly to sleep, and spent the rest of the day out. It didn’t have much of a backpackers vibe. The place seems a bit old and could use a proper clean, especially around the showers. Our room was okay, but the walls were thin and it was next to the kitchen. Workers staying there got up early, and the kitchen noise woke us at 5am. There were tents for rent in the common area with the pool table and couches. A family with a child was staying in one, so once it got late, we avoided playing pool or sitting there in case we woke the kid. The owner, I guess, smoked in the reception area, which is also where the tents and pool table were, and the whole place smelled a bit of smoke.

There was no water for me or my team to bathe, but the guy was friendly.

Jeanette and Rasheida are so nice, and during my five days there I had no trouble with either the staff or other guests. The atmosphere is relaxed and great. There’s free Wi-Fi and breakfast, plus a pool table, an outdoor smoking area, and lots of useful information. The prices are excellent too. If you’re passing through Mossel Bay, you need to stay here. 10/5!

A clean, comfortable place in an excellent location, with a nice free breakfast. You can make your own eggs, and there’s bread, jam, coffee, and tea. There were only two showers that I saw, and no privacy curtains. The bunk beds only had electrical extension leads. There wasn’t an outlet at each bed or a reading light.

We were lucky not to spend the night there. We’d booked by phone, but when we arrived, the receptionist said she’d forgotten to block the room and someone else had booked it through booking.com. Nobody contacted us beforehand, and the only option they offered while we were there was a dorm room. The living room had tents in it and looked like a refugee camp. It seems to be coasting on reviews from two years ago, but people should know it probably isn’t what it used to be. I’ve never left a bad review before, but that’s no way to treat customers.
