Portao Diaz Hotel

The food was very good and well prepared, which we appreciated. The rest of our experience at the hotel was disappointing when we held a function there a few weeks ago. After paying the deposit, we had trouble reaching the function coordinator, Yolanda, while trying to finalise arrangements. We’d agreed on a time to prepare the hall, but it wasn’t available when we arrived. By the time we got access, later than planned, it was in very poor condition. The setup was also missing tables and chairs, despite assurances at our meeting that everything would be arranged. We had to rush to hire extra tables at the last minute, adding stress to the day. Better communication and availability from the coordinator, and sticking to the agreed arrangements, would have made a real difference.

We stayed at the end of 2025 into the beginning of 2026, and what a gem. The staff were friendly and helpful, making us feel like part of their big, happy family. There’s a welcoming pool and a beautiful, relaxing braai area. The lounge has plenty of seats and a view across the pool to the distant beach.

A big thank you to Yolanda, the hotel manager, for helping us with our requests and a last-minute booking. The staff are great and give the hotel its own special character.

This was another upsetting Booking.com experience. I hate complaining, but it upset my family and me. What we saw was so different from the pictures on Booking.com that my husband refused to go inside. We didn’t know the area and weren’t willing to take a chance on going in. It looked like a run-down hotel, and we felt the listing was completely misleading. When I called, I was told I had to cancel 48 hours in advance. How was I supposed to know the location would feel dangerous? The hotel kept my money, and we had to find other accommodation. I had to give a rating to add a comment, but...
