Santos Express Train Lodge - Hostel

The staff were consistently kind, attentive, and helpful, and the stay was good value for money. Breakfast was abundant and delicious. My first day, though, the bathroom next to my room stayed unclean for several hours until I mentioned it. It was cleaned promptly after that. Dinner was disappointing for the price. I ordered a seafood casserole, but there was very little seafood and a lot of reheated rice, so I wouldn't recommend that dish. The budget rooms also get quite hot because they don't have a fan. Even with those issues, I'd return for the good value and excellent service.

Dion deserves a special mention for saving our trip by getting our car keys out of the train window after we'd dropped them down the side. The staff were amazing, the food was delicious, and it's a really unique stay in a beautiful spot. It was hot on the first night, so the only thing I'd change is adding a fan to the rooms. Thanks for a great stay, and definitely stay here if you're visiting Mossel Bay.

The location and the whole stay were such a nice experience. I came with my dad, who's a bigger man, and he managed to get through the train. Still, if you're on the bigger side, keep in mind that it might not be possible for you. The food and prices were really good. We're convinced the drinks had no alcohol in them, though 😂. We each had about 3-4 and didn't feel a thing.

The sound of the waves at night was magical, and the location right on the beach with its lovely views is hard to beat. Staying in a train beside the ocean was such a special, memorable change from the usual. The staff were very welcoming, and the continental breakfast was fresh and tasty. The price was exceptional value for money. It's not a standard hotel, and that's part of its charm. I'd recommend it for a fun getaway or something a bit different. I'll be back for sure.
