The beach feels wonderfully private, and the trail down to it is beautiful. Our cabin had all we needed, including comfortable beds and aircon to cool things down in the heat. The lodge itself is stunning in the forest, with breathtaking views, and the staff were friendly and made sure we were looked after. A peaceful nature retreat.

A good choice for a weekend or long weekend. Temperatures can reach 41 degrees Celsius from November to April, so I'd come out of season. There aren't safe beaches for swimming.

We were a German couple in our 60s, arriving in Mtuzini and looking for accommodation. At the Forest Lodge they wouldn't let us see the lodges first, saying they were too busy. We found a very nice apartment in town instead.

The snails as a starter are almost a meal, and the forest dining was excellent. Best king klippe I've had in a long time!

The cabin had things breaking or coming apart in several places, and the hot water didn't regulate properly. The beds and pillows were horrible, the couches uncomfortable, and the old log cabins don't seem maintained. Staff weren't much help, and the resort doesn't offer much. Mtunzini itself didn't work for me either: there's not much to do, and the handful of restaurants meant to open for lunch close whenever they feel like it. There's one breakfast restaurant, and it isn't good. The Forest Lodge has been fully booked for years, which I just can't understand. It's a unique experience, but I'll never return and can't recommend it unless all you want is a log cabin.
