De Opstal

Seeing wild meerkats at dawn nearby was a highlight, and we also visited Cango Caves and the ostrich farm down the road. The staff were helpful about where to go. We stayed in Nov 2024, and I'm only writing now, but the trip has stayed with me. My fiancé and I were planning our wedding at the time, and if we lived closer we really would have considered De Opstal as a venue. It was set up well for weddings, and the staff seemed very organised. We came with my father and had two rooms between us. All three of us loved the spacious, cosy rooms with fireplaces, the good food and the pool for a swim or a rest beside it. The staff were a real highlight. Marissa was enthusiastic and warm, and helped us through a safe mishap that was our own fault. The drive in was lovely, the surroundings stunning, and the Karoo was one of our favourite parts of our two weeks travelling in South Africa. De Opstal has a welcoming, rustic charm from the moment you arrive. Prices were very reasonable, and it felt worthy of five stars. We'd love to stay again someday.

We spent three days at De Opstal for a family wedding, and had an amazing time. It's a relaxed, almost magical setting with a country, rustic feel. As a wedding venue it was truly unique, with stunning flowers and decorations and delicious food. The staff were wonderful, and Matilda was especially helpful.

A beautiful stay in Oudtshoorn at De Opstal Country Lodge, where old stables have been turned into distinctive accommodation.

We really liked the atmosphere and would come back. At first glance it seemed a bit antique, but the style worked well. The outdoor pool was great, and both dinner and breakfast were a real treat.
