The fish eagles and the view were lovely, but I wouldn’t stay here again. There was no hot water, and for six adults there were only two steak knives and very little cutlery. If you’re happy to get away from everything and don’t mind the accommodation, it might suit you. The place needs serious TLC, though, and I wasn’t happy with our stay.

I appreciated that the Bush Camp welcomes pets, and the hosts were friendly. For the price, thanks for that. The accommodation itself was average, and the surrounding area had very little lighting, which some people may prefer. A few simple things would make guests more comfortable, like coffee and sugar for the morning, soap in the ablutions, paper towels, and information about whether the water is safe.

We ended up buying our own pillows and sheets on the second night. The linen was awful, the mattress was old and lumpy, and I don’t even want to guess how old the pillows were. It wasn’t a pleasant stay, and there weren’t any nice touches.

The setting is lovely and Karen was friendly and helpful, but we found the place hard to manage with our five-month-old twins. We stayed at Otters Haunt (Otters Den right on the river) over Easter 2025, and wouldn’t recommend it to families with babies as things stand. The power was scheduled to go off every night from 11PM to 6AM, which meant no lights or warm water when we needed to feed and settle the babies. There was no warm running water in the kitchen either, so we had to carry water from the bathroom to wash bottles. Cleanliness and upkeep were disappointing. The stove’s glass cover was grimy, the cupboards were dirty, and the kettle was so worn that metal flakes came off into the water. The bedding was stained and the pillows smelled bad. Both bathrooms had grime around the tubs, and one bath had a broken shower attachment. There’s a lot of potential here, with beautiful views and a peaceful location. Some maintenance and more attention to cleanliness would make a real difference.

A big thank you to Karen for being such a welcoming host and a great, informative hike guide. Big up to you and your staff!
