Safari Lodge - Amakhala Game Reserve

Seeing so many animals, sometimes from very close by, made this an incredible experience that I’ll remember forever. We saw all of the Big Five except leopards. The staff were friendly, welcoming and professional, and they handled every question or need quickly. Oboot, whose name I may have misspelled, was a terrific guide, with loads of knowledge and experience. The food was fabulous too.

The wildlife was incredible: giraffes right outside our lodge, along with kudu, zebras and phacocheres, and we got to see all of the Big Five on the reserve. The days were built around morning and afternoon safaris, which made the week feel full of discovery. We stayed for a week in July 2024 to celebrate our honeymoon, and the setting, delicious food and attentive, responsive staff all made it feel perfect. The rangers knew the reserve and its animals so well. Five stars hardly seems enough. We hope to come back someday and share it with our future children.

The wildlife and food were wonderful, and our few days here gave us memories we’ll keep forever. Desmond was a brilliant guide, extremely knowledgeable, and made the game drives amazing. Amakhala Safari Lodge was the highlight of our South Africa trip. The staff showed us exceptional hospitality and looked after us so well. The whole experience went beyond what we expected.

We stayed in the tents rather than the Lodge, and really enjoyed it. They have toilets and showers, so it wasn’t a hardship at all. We also did safaris at Amakhala and Addo Elephant park, and both were fantastic.
