We didn’t stay at the hotel because it’s being refurbished. The golf course is looking great and plays nicely. A couple of things frustrated me, like where the drop zones are placed, but I loved the greens. They run slow, which suits my heavy hand. The service and food were very good. We’ll be back.

The manager’s appearance and conduct also left me concerned, as they didn’t seem to reflect the professional standards I’d expect at a reputable golf course. It added to an already poor impression of the facility. Golf in the Wild was a disappointing experience. The greens and fairways were badly maintained, and neglect across the course made it unpleasant to play. It’s also upsetting to see the once-renowned Hans Merensky course apparently going to ruin. The lack of care and attention suggests mismanagement and disregard for the establishment’s reputation. The visit wasted my time and fell short of what the course’s history and promotional material led me to expect. Action is needed to restore the quality and professionalism patrons expect. Sincerely,
Lwazi N.
A lovely golf course stretches out just behind the dining area near the pool, with beautiful views across the horizon and some friendly monkeys nearby. The pool area is spacious, with tall trees and green grass. This is one of the most refreshing hotels to visit around Phalaborwa in Limpopo, set among beautiful natural surroundings. It’s also very cost effective.

Disappointing to find that this hotel has been closed for some time and is now only a golf club. There’s no road sign indicating “Hans Merensky Hotel & Spa,” or even mentioning the nature reserve or golf club.

We left a day early after a miserable stay, and I blame both Lekkeslaap and the Hans Merensky “hotel” and “spa.” The place is extremely run down, and I can’t understand why Hans Merensky Hotel is still accepting guests. Apart from the reception area, the property feels like a wasteland. There’s little to do besides sit by the pool or play golf, despite the many activities listed online, which weren’t available. It also seems irresponsible for Lekkeslaap to advertise it. The photos on both websites create the impression of a lavish hotel, which badly misrepresents the current state. The decay clearly took years, not overnight, and Lekkeslaap should be checking these places before listing them. I don’t use the word scam lightly, but that’s how this felt. This was daylight robbery, and I’ll never use Lekkeslaap again. The grounds were badly neglected, with overgrown lawns and gardens, rubble, unfinished buildings, broken roads, unused fountains full of green, mucky water, and peeling paint. Large biting ants swarmed our legs when we got out of the car or stepped on the grass. Aggressive monkeys, bugs, and ants made it impossible to enjoy the veranda. The bar and restaurant were shut, there were no staff around besides cleaners, and we seemed to be the only guests. No one provided anything, so we had to buy plastic cutlery. Our room had scuff marks, and the wooden veranda doors were rotted and wouldn’t open properly. The shower door and shower didn’t line up, flooding the bathroom after every shower, and water leaked from behind the basin onto our clothes. At check-in, there was no receptionist present, and they seemed unaware we were coming even though we were the only guests. We felt unwelcome, and check-in took 20 to 25 minutes. The pool water was blue, but the area was a mess, with bottle caps and rubbish lying around and sun-beaten furniture scattered about without cushions. There was a frog and two spiders in the pool, and bugs covered the surface. We couldn’t swim for more than five minutes before spotting something disgusting and getting out. I’ve never had worse accommodation. We didn’t enjoy a moment there and suffered through it until leaving a day early.
