Bitou River Lodge

Those earlier five-star reviews say it better than I can. We felt at home at Bitou River Lodge, even though we were in Canada. The riverside setting is amazing, the owners were lovely and welcoming, and Manny was the best part of my two-day stay. The renovations are exceptional. Thank you!

Waking up to a full farmhouse breakfast before heading out for a beach walk was a lovely start to the day. You can also canoe along the river from the lodge or spend time by the pool. Our room was spotless and beautifully put together, with a very comfortable bed, crisp linen, TV, WiFi, good coffee and everything we needed. The large artwork on the wall added to the feel of it. The food was exceptional, full of flavour and beautifully presented. Manny was a pleasure to deal with and always made sure we had what we needed. Kerry and Clint Penny were warm, thoughtful hosts, and their attention to detail made us feel at home. The lodge sits right on the Bitou River in Plettenberg Bay, and its gardens and lawns made a lovely first impression. There were ripe lemons on the trees, happy farm animals including a horse and sheep, and a family of blue cranes. The owners' love of art shows in the entrance sculpture, the objects around the lodge and the oversized paintings. In the late afternoon, joining Kerry and her nephew Liam for the animal feed was a memorable glimpse of quiet farm life. We stayed in March and had an incredible time at this newly renovated, luxury farmhouse-style lodge. It felt like a little piece of paradise and a rejuvenating escape into nature.

We left Bitou River Lodge feeling grateful and a little sad to go. We hope it continues to thrive, and we'd certainly come back for a longer stay. Emanuel looked after us with hearty breakfasts each morning, made with care. The owners put their hearts into the place, and that warmth and authenticity come through. The hosts were welcoming from the start and made us feel at home throughout our stay. The lodge is beside the peaceful Bitou River, with lovely scenery all around. The owner tends the garden with obvious passion, and it adds a special touch to the property.

The staff were so friendly, and they gave us great suggestions for dinner and things to do. We had an unforgettable stay at Bitou River Lodge. The rooms were lovely and the whole lodge looked amazing.
