Graceland Eco Retreat

The spot in nature is fantastic and peaceful, and the hosts are incredibly nice. We also had a cook unlike any we came across elsewhere in South Africa. If you’re holidaying in Magoebaskloof, I think a stay at Graceland is a must. Everything was perfect.

That winding gravel road through a remote area is part of the trip, but it was worth it for the vivid night sky. The stars looked close enough to touch. Graceland Eco Retreat gave us a chance to get away from everyday bustle and enjoy nature with plenty of comfort. Our accommodation was spacious, spotless, and well equipped. The views were breathtaking, and the setting felt luxurious and peaceful. The hosts were warm, attentive, and went out of their way to make sure we had what we needed. We also ate at Pause Restaurant, and it was one of the best meals I’ve had. The Michelin-level five-course dinner was beautifully put together, with well balanced flavours and drinks chosen to go with it. While we ate, three giraffes wandered past the restaurant. It felt magical. From the moment we arrived, the stay felt different. Every detail seemed considered, and it made for a truly unforgettable night away. Highly recommended!

The hosts are lovely and really put their guests first. We stayed in a romantic lodge with great views, and loved the food they made. You could taste the care they put into it, and it was fantastic and delicious. I’d love to go back.

The breakfast on our last morning was creative and fresh, a welcome change from the usual bacon and eggs. We also loved seeing the resident giraffes and other wildlife on the property, and meeting the charming Cocker Spaniels, Phoenix and Sadé. We spent three nights at Graceland Eco Retreat, enjoying the peace and privacy while still being close to Haenertsburg and other Magoebaskloof attractions. Anders and Douglas were exceptional hosts. Their clear, helpful communication made planning easy, and Anders gave us a warm welcome when we arrived. Our modern but cozy unit was beautifully prepared, and the accommodation was serviced daily. There was plenty of firewood for braais too, more than we expected. It was a serene getaway, and we’d happily return.
