We ended up having lunch here with a group and were served well. The bar has drinks and a snack menu, plus great views.

We stayed in unit 57, which was basic and a bit dated, but clean. Since we visited out of season, it was very affordable. The units don't all have the same facilities. It's self-catering rather than a hotel, and there's a restaurant and grocery shop about 200 metres away. Bring your streaming service password, as the Wi-Fi and broadband are free.

The sea is audible all the time, and most units look out over it. Port Alfred Sands is a quiet, secure complex with a well-kept garden where kids can play. There's a shared pool and covered braai area, while each private unit has its own braai spot and outside deck. The spacious self-catering units make a great family holiday base. Guidos, by the river, is 300m away, and lovely Kelly's Beach is within walking distance.

We stayed in unit H and were so happy with everything. It was a lovely, cosy holiday home, really quiet, and within walking distance of the beach, a restaurant and a mini market. Self-catering accommodation.

It's a great little town, but life can get very difficult if you catch an important person somewhere they're not supposed to be.
