I was very disappointed by how our stay was handled. Although we had a confirmed Agoda booking at a discounted rate, R260 for a R500 room, staff spent about an hour checking it despite us showing proof. Then they asked for another R450 on top of what we’d already paid. Communication was difficult because of a language barrier, and we also encountered rudeness. All the staff were men, which made us feel unsafe, and staff kept coming into our room, which seemed to be used for storage. After checkout, we reported belongings worth R1000 left in the room and followed up by phone several times, but staff couldn’t find them. We were sure we’d left them there, and suspect housekeeping may have come across them. It was upsetting, especially when staff even said they didn’t care if we wrote a bad review. The poor professionalism, communication problems, safety concerns, and missing belongings made this a disappointing experience.

Untidy, bad service, and not a good place for people new to the country. It seems meant for people from the local area.

The receptionist was friendly and professional, but the rest of my stay at Isabel's Guesthouse left a lot to be desired. The room was cramped and claustrophobic, the TV had no remote, and the bed sank in places. Its springs felt like they were stabbing my back all night. I also found the atmosphere unsettling. There was a constant flow of foreign nationals, mainly Nigerians, and the movement and behavior seemed suspicious to me. It made me worry the place might be involved in illicit activity. With the poor room and that uneasy atmosphere, I can’t recommend Isabel's Guesthouse.

Booking conditions changed when we arrived. The place was overcrowded, so hot water felt like gold. The showers were extremely small, close to half the usual size. Across all 8 rooms, there was just 1 kettle for heating water and 1 iron.

The price changes when you arrive, and staying there felt like being at your auntie's house in a bad way. Staff were loud and intrusive, and flirted with guests. One of them opened my door without knocking.
